Two passages contested by the AP-HP CEO: the estimated death rate in the intensive care unit and the patient’s 80-year-old age.

Didier Raoult’s statements before members of the Covid-19 investigation committee “seem like false testimony,” accuses AP-HP in a letter to the president of the National Assembly.

“It seems to me essential (…) that the work of the commission can be based on elements of fact and falsehood and that the necessary packages can be given,” writes the general director of AP-HP (public assistance – Paris hospitals), Martin Hirsch, in this letter to Richard Ferrand.

Martin Hirsch objected to two passages from Dr. Didier Raoult’s hearing for the commission of inquiry on June 24: on the one hand, the assessment of the mortality rate of intensive care patients, and on the other, about an 80-year-old Chinese patient who was hospitalized in Paris at the end of January and died in mid-February (it was the first death from Covid-19 officially registered in Europe).

“These statements, which seriously question the AP-HP, given under oath, appear to me to be false testimony,” Martin Hirsch accuses in a letter dated June 26.

“There is no data on the mortality rate up to 43%”

Two days earlier, before the commission, Pr. Raoult, a fervent and controversial defender of hydroxychloroquine, raised the issue of lethality and said that they were based on “work” available on the Internet. “The CPR death rate here, in this line of work, is always 43%. Here it’s 16%,” he said, without specifying exactly where those numbers came from. “Care fades into the background,” continued Pr Raoult, director of the Méditerranée Infection University Hospital Institute (IHU), Marseille.

In his letter, Martin Hirsch assures that “we do not have data of up to 43% mortality in AP-HP resuscitations”, without specifying what that rate is. “On the other hand, to date there is no published study comparing ICU mortality rates, assessed under controlled conditions, between hospitals in Paris and Marseille,” he adds.

furthermore, Pr. Raoult stated that an 80-year-old Chinese patient presented “at the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris” had “returned home”, then “arrived after 7 days” and had “come to die in the hospital”.

“The only 80-year-old Chinese patient who can be mentioned in Pr Didier Raoult was admitted on January 25, 2020 at the Georges Pompidou European Hospital. He was never sent home, ”says Martin Hirsch in his letter. We remind you that this patient was later transferred “to the Bichat Hospital, a national reference center”, where his daughter, who was also ill, was treated before recovering.
