unions and collective hospitals are organizing new demonstrations across France to get more than $6.3 billion announced by the government.
Strike the iron while it’s still hot. Days after the closure of the “Ségur” health center, hospital workers were once again invited to demonstrations in dozens of cities this Tuesday, to get more than $6.3 billion that the government has already put on the table.
Following the success of their mobilization, on June 16 (100,000 to 180,000 demonstrators according to sources), the unions and the collective hospital organized new rallies throughout France. Dozens of protests are planned in Lorient, Nancy, Toulon and Mont-de-Marsan, usually in front of the local hospital or the regional health agency (ARS).
The end of “Segura” on Friday
In Paris, the procession will leave at 2:00 p.m. from the former military hospital of Val-de-Grace (V district), in the direction of the Ministry of Health (VIIe). The goal is to “influence political decisions,” Mireille Stivala said during a press conference on Monday. The general secretary of CGT-Salud promises that he will be willing “to continue mobilizing because we are not going to be able to submit to the Government” to (his) demands from him.

But time was running out, because “Ségur zdravlje” is coming to an end. This broad consultation, launched on May 25 to implement the “great investment and revaluation plan” promised by Emmanuel Macron, will be completed on Friday, with a final meeting under the auspices of the former CFDT president, Nicole Notat. The head of state could then announce his own commitments next week, especially with regard to the highly anticipated salary increases.
His minister, Olivier Veran, has already put on the table a total of 6,000 million euros for personal, non-medical benefits, which must be divided between a general increase, a review of premiums and increases for specific professions (nurses, assistants, radio hosts…). An extension cable of 300 million euros to hospital doctors was also proposed this Monday, with measures aimed at the start and end of career, certain bonuses and overtime, which the union doctors immediately rejected citing “great disappointment”.
The expected “strong gesture”.
“It is very, very far away”, writes the general secretary of SOUTH-Health, Jean-Marc Devauchelle, who demands no less than 14,000 million for an increase of 300 euros net of all payrolls in the sector. His colleague at the Force ouvrière, Didier Birig, prefers to have 7,000 million, and believes that “the ball is in the ministry’s court.” With this note: “If the response is not as expected, there will be consequences.”
“We are very afraid of the leak of personal data if there was not a scare due to the attraction,” says former doctor Christian Prudhomme (Amuf), who expects “a strong gesture from the Government, both in salary increases and in employment and in ending the closure of beds”. Disappointed by the previous plans of the executive branch, which did not stop the social movement that began in the spring of 2019, the unions initially see a gap “between what has been said for months about the need to revitalize the medical corps, review the financing of the public hospital and the reality of today’s announcements”, explains Mireille Stivala, a.

By the way, he points out that “the issue of hiring personnel has not (is) resolved within Segura” and he believes that “it is a big problem.” The government, however, intends to release resources for investment, with a recovery already programmed by the Banco de Seguridad for a third-party debt hospital. The amount of this budget allocation remains to be known.

“The impatience of the guards (…) is very strong, I share it, I am at least as impatient as they are,” Olivier Véran said in an interview with Mundo on Friday. The minister, however, knows that “whoever says that there is trade, says some exchanges and strong handshakes, and on the other hand, it is completely normal.”
