The Council of State announced on Saturday that it is restoring freedom of expression, by lifting the ban on gatherings of more than ten people – regarding barriers to gestures, imposed as part of the state of emergency, put in place to try to stop the outbreak of the coronavirus.

The decision comes as thousands of people protested against racism and police violence in France on Saturday. In Paris, the works, which were not approved by the prefecture, were blocked at the starting point, and because of the tensions that broke out, the crowd chased the police.

“The Court notes that the High Council for Public Health recommends in its recommendations of April 24, 2020, not to limit the flow of traffic in public space because ‘barrier measures’ (a distance of one meter or the wearing of equipment, especially masks) are respected, and that there is no reversal of the epidemic,” the State Council said in a statement.
