Activists demanding the suspension of air traffic, which contributes to greenhouse gas emissions, have placed banners in front of the planes on the runway.
About twenty Extinction Rebellion (XR) activists appeared this Friday on the runway at Orly airport, which has just reopened after almost three months of closure due to the coronavirus epidemic, stopping “briefly” according to ADP.

“The government is trying to carry out a common operation to ban some domestic flights, but -at the same time- it financed the recovery of the aviation industry with billions of public money. What is the logic?”, they condemned this operation, called “Firebird”, in a press release.
ADP should improve “insurance work”.
“Extinction Rebellion calls for a policy of courageous action against climate change and the collapse of biodiversity. The action is not hypocritical or cowardly. We demand the only action necessary: a ban on ALL domestic flights. Yay!” they added.

“It is a symbol of facing the plane, facing what puts us in danger,” Franck, a member of the organization, said by phone, confirming that the activists alerted air security 20 minutes before entering the airport perimeter. He was amazed at the speed of reaction of the security forces to his operation. “We expected a faster response. That says a lot about security, anyone can enter ”, he condemned.
Grupo ADP confirmed the intrusion of activists, assuring that it will be appealed. “The operation of the airport was briefly interrupted. Flight operations continued safely on the other runways of the airport, in full coordination with the relevant government departments,” he said.
