The Galaxy S22 comes in a new color, and it’s a Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 teaser

Samsung likes to release new colors and special editions of its flagship phones. This year, the summer color refresh for the Galaxy S22 comes in a beautiful shade of purple that really stands out from the existing color palette. “Bora Purple,” as Samsung calls it (turns out “bora” is Korean for purple!), is a subtle and bright purple shade that looks great on the S22’s simple frame.

Nothing changes in the finishes on the S22 — it still has glossy sides, matte back — for this color. It’s a shiny metal frame barely noticeably purple, almost in line with the frame of the white color option. The shine of the metal is still what hits you.

The glass back, with its matte finish, also plays down the power of the purple — though it’s entirely dependent on the lighting. In bright light, at first glance, you can hardly distinguish it from white. But in darker typical indoor lighting, it has just the right amount of purple – colorful but not ostentatious.

The purple is definitely brighter than the initial “purple” color available on the S22 and S22+. With a color-coordinated purple bezel and camera body compared to the purple’s contrasting gold accents, this is also a far more subtle choice. At the same time, it comes in a darker color than the launch pink.

The Bora Purple S22 is priced the same as any other color, $799, and goes on sale on August 10 — not so coincidentally timed to coincide with the next Galaxy Unpacked event. In the announcement of the Bora Purple S22, we got a surprising hint that it will also be available “for exciting new Galaxy devices later this year”. Interesting.

It’s a pretty good bet that it’s either the Galaxy Z Flip 4, the Galaxy Z Fold 4, or maybe both. With Samsung’s penchant for having purple in its phone color palette, going all the way back to the Galaxy S8 and as recently as the Galaxy Z Flip 3, it would come as no surprise that Bora Purple is the launch color for both next-gen foldables. Given how nice it is on the S22, I’m all for it being part of the Z Flip 4 and Z Fold 4 launch lineup.

Unlike some special color editions, Samsung doesn’t limit sales to its online store. You’ll also be able to get the Bora Purple Galaxy S22 through AT&T, T-Mobile, US Cellular, Verizon, and Xfinity Mobile.
