The conspiracy of the greatest showman
As a child, PT Barnum and Philo work for the Hallett family. Barnum falls in love with the Halletts’ daughter, Charity. They got married and also have 2 daughters, Caroline and Helen, in New York. He loses his job as a freight forwarder because the company goes bankrupt. He then gets a bank loan using his former employer’s lost ships, and opens Barnum’s American Museum in midtown Manhattan, which houses various wax figures. This provokes greater attendance, protests and bad reviews from the famous critic James Gordon Bennett.
He returns home to find his circus on fire, caused by a fight between the protestors and the troupe. He learns that the culprits have been caught and that Lind has canceled her tour after the scandal with Barnum and her. His mansion is confiscated, and Charity takes the girls to her parents’ home. A recovering Phillip offers his share of the earnings to help Barnum rebuild the circus and become a full partner, which Barnum readily accepts. The restored circus is a great success, and Phillip takes over Barnum’s position as ringleader so that the former can spend more time with his family. Barnum leaves the circus early and arrives on an elephant to attend Caroline and Helena’s ballet recital.
