160 years ago, the Low-Bronner sisters started their activities in Fürstenfeldbruck. The service is being developed in the hospital, the nursing home Theresianum. Sisters’ anniversary celebration with a big and goodbye.

Fürstenfeldbruck – When you’re walking around town, at church services, when you’re shopping: you always meet the Low-Bronner sisters. They came in 1859, according to Bruck, thanks to then-mayor Johann Baptist Miller and pastor Gunzlmann. Because at that time, the sisters of the Divine Savior, as the congregation was officially called, were already in the Vincentinum in Munich.

chapel and infirmary

+ At the hospital in Josef Spital Street, the Low-Bronner sisters began their work. The photo dates from 1831.

thanks to the efforts of the two female leaders, Marija Stanislava was born with two sisters in 1859 in the hospital on Josef Spital Street. They were patient and took care of the household. After visiting the founder a year later, the chapel was added. “That was very important for the sisters,” says Sister Erna Maria. Soon, a clinic was attached to the sisters from 1920 to 1927 under supervision. There are also some pensioners who were connected to the house, however, it was too small. So, in 1927, the sisters went with them to Josipova pibadaca on the school trip. She worked there until 1957, at the hospital until 1979.

Nursing was not the Low-Bronner sisters’ only task. In 1908, Superior Sister Colomba received an order to do something for the youth. You got into a conversation with Betty Veal, who introduced her to an unused barn on Church Street – the house of St. Sophia. There, the nurses brought the girl to home economics with the goal of starting school.

land

The calf Betty was not left to row only in the stable, she gave him the entire plot on which the Theresianum residential complex and the seniors in Amperauen are located today – approximately 7,000 square meters of land. “You decreed that the sisters must keep him for life,” Erna’s sister, Maria, reported. “Let the cross at the entrance remain, and your grave will be taken care of.” The nuns still feel that order to this day.

On February 2, 1932, the well-equipped barn was named Theresianum – patrons were the then provincial head Maria Theresa and Teresa of Avila. During the war, she helped the sisters in many groups that came to the program to resettle children from the Ruhr area. In addition, they offered classes in typewriters and sewing for girls. “It is fortunate that the sisters were involved,” says Sister Erna Maria. Because the National Socialists actually wanted to get rid of the Catholic nuns.

letters smuggled

It was reported that there was a concentration camp in Emmering after the war. Cooking was done for the occupiers in Theresianum. And the prisoner’s sister Marie Clemens with a handcart and Radl brought blankets and food, said the sister, Erna, Maria. “And you smuggled letters and sent them to relatives.”

After the war, in 1947, with the support of the city, the first Domestic Economic School was founded, and later a course for training social occupations. In the winter school, the girls learned to cook, and also, for several weeks, sew and stone. A kindergarten was built, and from 1958 to 1977, nurses needed in the final practice worked in it.

Bruck, the demand for places to care for the elderly has increased. So, it was built on a barn, the current building located in the west wing of the Theresianum and was opened in 1979. From an internal business school, a retirement community for sisters. That was “the time, the most there”, recalls Sister Agnes. About 30 were in a rest home, and a further ten were still in active service in the elderly and home economics.

lack of younger staff

Time has brought changes. Due to the lack of youth, the Low-Bronner sisters could no longer cope with all the tasks. In 1991, the world’s first chef, and a year later the first home of conductor Armin Seefried, is today upstairs in the house he came from. In 2004, the non-profit company TGE was founded, which manages Theresianum. “The supreme control of the order still exists,” emphasizes Seefried.

The number of nurses was decreasing more and more. The retirement home was demolished in 2006 and replaced by a new building for the care of the elderly. By 2018, the old building was renovated and the geront-psychiatry department was being expanded. Currently four sisters in Theresianum in a small community. They provide pastoral care, visit residents, help them settle in and accompany you to the ward in your past life. “We have time for people,” says Sister Agnes. This man under the Theresianum of other ancient and vaginal homes, Seefried reported from conversations with residents and relatives. “We appreciate what they do for us and for the people.”

Oh right, and the anniversary celebration

The Society of the Sisters of the Divine Redeemer currently has around 1,000 members. Once there was a province of Bavaria, in the meantime it was in the province of Germany and Austria together, of the approximately 500 nuns to which it belongs. A recent highlight was the beatification of founder Alfonso Maria Eppinger in 2018. The anniversary should be a day of reunion for the sisters. – We meet with the sisters who lived and worked here.
