This play also features the 3-3-5 Wide and Will formations, which many Madden players consider the meta defense of last season. In a 3-3-5 Wide, two of your LBs will line up on the line and one will hang back to cover the middle of the field. If you smell running, you’ll want to be in Wide. The Steelers Defense also has another unique formation, the 1-5-5 Triple-A Gap. This formation crowds the line quickly and has plays that will send the second LB or DB to the QB. The 1-5-5 and Nickel Triple will keep 5-6 defenders on the line, making them useful against the run.
Green Bay Packers

With Aaron Rogers officially back on the team, the Green Bay Packers hope to go one game further than they did in 2020. They’ll need to step up their defense if they want to beat Tom Brady and the Bucs this time around. They’ll do it mostly from the 3-4, but they can drop into what’s called Quarter coverage, with seven DBs on the field for ultimate pass protection. The quarterback (or 1-3-7 formation) will keep big passing teams at bay while running intricate attacks on both sides of the line. Outside of the Dime formation, you can also switch to Safties for LBs for added speed and coverage in the middle of the field. You also have several options from the 3-4 formation. Under and Over only keep three defenders right on the line of scrimmage. Then the LBs line up left or right depending on how the offense plays out. The odd formation keeps five defenders on the line with two LBs in the middle. Slide left or right to defend outside runs and leave him alone if you think the offense is going inside.
Defense 46
We mentioned the 46 when we talked about the Steelers, but you can run a pure defensive 46 playbook just like a more D playbook or a 3-4 playbook. The 46 takes what’s in the Pittsburgh playbook and expands it with more 46 formations. Take for example 46 Normal.
