This 1,000-square-foot luxury tent costs more than some houses

We all have those friends (or maybe we are those friends) who refuse to go camping unless there is at least some sort of yurt situation. Whether it’s bugs or the cold, hard ground, spending time with nature isn’t on their list of top 10 ways to spend the weekend. An autonomous tent could be the answer to their glamping (or glamorous camping) requirements.

Designed by Harry Gesner and Patricia DiMario, the construction is meant to be both luxurious and impact-resistant, meaning it requires no foundation and you can take the solar-powered tent with you when you leave the wilderness. That’s good, because it’ll set you back $100,000 for the smaller 700-square-foot version of the Cocoon and $200,000 for the 1,000-square-foot Tipi. That’s more than a few nights in some five-star hotels, but the creators predict that its wealthy clientele will be more intrepid and take their tent off the beaten (or paved) path.

Included in that six-figure price are steel or aluminum pipes or laminated beams and “a high-tech, transparent fabric that resists mold, rot and vermin,” according to the company. It is built to withstand 90 mph winds and heavy snow. Both designs are located on raised decks.

With solar panels, the tent can run LED lights, pumps, water filters and a composting system. Either solar water heating panels or a propane water heater make showering possible, with a gray water system that filters H2O for a greener experience.

If you can’t afford to buy one yourself, there are a few resorts that have them. For $495 a night, you can stay in a 500-square-foot version at Treebones Resort in Big Sur, California, according to Dwell. Along with a sink and shower, it also has a gas fireplace and a comfortable bed.

We can almost imagine how Phyllis Nefler deigned to spend the night here. Almost.
