This PC’s open-air chassis is unlike anything you’ve ever seen

If you’re a fan of unusual PC builds, you might like this new release from Nagao Seisakusho, the Japanese open-frame case specialist. Instead of locking all the components inside the chassis, Nagao frees them up – and this time the company spiced up the build with an unexpected detail.

Nagao has just introduced a monitor mounting bracket that goes with its open chassis, allowing users to build their own complete all-in-one laptop.

Nagao is a brand that makes open cases for all types of motherboards and use cases, including standard ATX, Micro-ATX and Mini-ATX motherboards. The company has several options that allow users to customize its computers beyond what a typical case allows.

First spotted by @momomo_us on Twitterand called “N-Frame PC Chassis”, these open “cases” allow you to build your PC from scratch in an orderly fashion.

As seen in the images that include the mounting bracket, the result is unlike anything we’ve seen. The photos show the potential of the case, with a massive graphics card completely unfettered by the size of the motherboard. The monitor is hung on the side of the case, with the motherboard and components directly behind it. The whole setup is highly upgradeable, easy to follow and, in all likelihood, delightfully easy to clean. (Did you know you should clean the inside of your computer every few months?)

Typically, the best all-in-one PCs push components inside the display, much like the gorgeous 24-inch Apple iMac. On the other hand, it’s hard to deny that Naga’s vision definitely scores some points when it comes to uniqueness, and for real-world PC performance, it certainly helps. Instead of cramming things into an extremely tight space, the components cool just because they’re out in the open.

While Naga’s products seem like a lot of fun to PC building enthusiasts, they are not directly available in the US. However, you can check them out on the Japanese version of Amazon if you want to try them out. The Nagao Open Frame Micro-ATX case costs 14,955 Japanese yen, which is about $112.

Ditching the case when building a new PC certainly has a number of benefits, from increased airflow to the fact that it just looks pretty cool. It’s also easier when you don’t have to worry so much about the size of components, and cable management becomes less of a problem when you have enough space and options to organize them. Moreover, servicing an open-frame PC is quite easy — after all, it’s all out there in the open, at your fingertips. However, buildings like the Nagao are not without their problems, and looking at a handle on top of a computer — especially with a monitor mounted on it — raises the question of safety.

No doubt, Nagao will be testing the hardware before ever releasing it. It’s still a bit scary to imagine what might happen if the monitor ends up being heavier than the rest of the case, which, depending on the screen size, is entirely possible. The monitor mount has 75 x 75 and 100 x 100 VESA mounting holes which could lead to a fairly large display.

Once the all-in-one PC is built based on the Nagao product, it can be easily carried anywhere thanks to the added handle. This, again, can make you feel a little anxious. Imagine the tiniest bit of spilling or accidentally scratching your beastly graphics card… Not likely, but it could happen. If you wanted to try this for yourself, you’d have to weigh the pros and cons and decide how much portability you want to risk with your unique build.
