Meet Trey Ganem, the Designer Who Created Custom Caskets for Uvalde School Shooting Victims
Trey Ganem, a custom casket designer, was contacted by the Texas Funeral Directors Association to create custom caskets on the day of the shoot. He revealed to CNN on Monday that he and his 25-year-old son worked for days to assemble, design and deliver all the caskets to funeral homes.
Trey went on to say that these caskets were purchased from the Cherokee Casket Company of Griffin, Georgia, who worked 20 straight hours to make them. They also worked with shipping companies to source kid-sized trunks to ship to Texas. He said he completed the 19 coffins over the holiday weekend, worked almost three days straight and slept for about six hours.
trey said ABC News, “Our emotions when we finished the last coffin, we all just looked at each other and started crying, and when they hugged, it was like, ‘we did it and they all turned out beautiful.’ In three and a half days we made 19 cassettes, but it was a relief”.
Trey reportedly met with the victim’s family to customize the designs and themes for each coffin. Designs ranged from TikTok to Spider-Man. Marisol Gonzalez of SOLart Designs and Justin Watts of The Graphix House helped with the graphics.
“We don’t just put vinyl wrap on top, we actually paint each one to order. We’re completely disassembling the case and painting the hardware, painting the grills,” Trey told CNN. “The class and passion that we put into this is prohibitive.”
Trey claimed that his company paid for almost everything even though they received some donations. “I didn’t even think twice when they asked me,” he adds, “and God always takes care of us.”
