Inclusion of IKS in Higher Education: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued guidelines for the inclusion of the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) in higher education. According to the official announcement, NEP 2020 emphasizes the promotion of Indian language, arts and culture and tries to eliminate this disruption in the process of the IKS system by including it in the curriculum at all levels. all levels of education.

The notice added that all higher education institutions are required to take the necessary actions to implement the written and mental instructions. As per UGC guidelines, IKS syllabus will cover topics including Indian Logic, Indian Linguistics, Indian Architecture, Indian Metallurgy and Indian Politics and Economics etc.

IKS in Undergraduate Programs (UG)

  • Candidates applying for a 4-year undergraduate program should be encouraged to take the appropriate number of courses in IKS to ensure that their total credits represent at least 5% of the total required credits.
  • Students may be allowed the option of an internship/apprenticeship in any subject/discipline that is part of the IKS.
  • These provisions may be incorporated into the curriculum framework for the respective courses with the approval of the competent authority of the higher education institution where applicable.

Postgraduate (PG) IKS Courses

  • All applicants taking PG courses in Arts, Commerce, and Science, must take an appropriate number of advanced credit courses in any IKS subject and relevant to the subject. their specialization so that the total of their program credits is equal to the candidate’s IKS score of at least 5% of the total required score.
  • Candidates may be allowed to choose to take additional courses in subjects that are part of the IKS if that option is available and matches the PG course requirements.
