TLC’s popular 1000lb Best Friends series follows the journey of four best friends from Georgia who go through a journey to witness drastic weight loss in order to be happy with themselves. As viewers watched their fight through a television, they were also interested in their family life.
Vanessa Cross is the mother of two children. Her names are Jacob and Werner Cross.
During therapy, Vannessa openly shared that she was a sex worker to make ends meet and support her family. In the therapy session shown in the 1000-Lb. On Monday’s episode of Best Friends, bariatric psychologist Dr. Connie Stapleton meets Cross, 44, and her best friend, Meghan Crumpler. Cross points out that while the topic of the meeting was initially her efforts to lose weight, it’s impossible to talk about it without talking about Cross’s past.
“There are things that I have done in the past. Things I just had to do physically and emotionally,” she said in an exclusive clip, revealing that she was once a sex worker herself. “When it comes to sex trafficking and things like that, subterfuge. Sometimes I feel so ashamed of the fact that I had to sell my body just to have food for myself and my children.”
Vannessa explains that approximately eight years have passed since her previous employment as a sex worker in a separate interview.
“It was an extremely dark period in my life,” she says. “I wouldn’t do it any other way except for the fact that it’s do it or go hungry, go without clothes, go without diapers, go without rent. And while I’m grateful my circumstances have changed a lot since then, the pain has never really left me.”
Meet Jacob Cross, the eldest son of Vanessa Cross
Vanessa Cross had an older son, Jacob Cross, with her ex-husband, whose name is D. There aren’t many details about who he was and what he did. But Vanessa’s ex-husband passed away in November 2016.
News of her death was announced by Vannessa’s sister, Jackie Cross. She posted on her Facebook: “I can’t sleep… I cry and pray…! D. it was!! My brother-in-law was hospitalized in BC hospital last week due to nausea and stomach pain, and we knew in a an hour that had not recovered. He was 37 years old. D was one of the few ‘real’ men that I had the happiness of having in my life. Down, honest, intelligent and very respectable!!.. I miss you brother! My prayers are with his family and my sister Vannessa Cross and my nephew Jacob who went above and beyond to take good care of them! This shouldn’t have happened! God be with us!
Jakov is currently 19 years old. According to his Facebook, he attended Stockbridge High School and currently resides in Locust Grove, Georgia.

Vannessa Cross is the younger of Vannessa Cross’s two children.
Werner Cross turned 14 on November 8, 2021. In November 2019, Vannessa wished her son: “Happy birthday to my little boy, he is 11 today, I love you Werner!”
Vannessa gave birth to her youngest child with the child’s father, Michael Gibbs. After that, they went their separate ways, but were together at least until 2010. However, they remained friends and decided to co-parent. On January 21, 2018, Vanessa wrote on her Facebook: “This man is a great father and I am blessed that he is.” So they were still friends.
