Veronica Valencia has been in the design industry for over 2 decades, and if there’s one thing she’s learned from it, it’s the longevity of a house. Even when the owner is gone, the house remains forever telling its story.
With this in mind, the designer had the idea to dig deep to discover each family’s unique history and infuse the spaces in their home with techniques, materials and heritage that reflect the family culture. Thus, HGTV’s Revealed was born.
“Designs become living history when designer Veronica Valencia dives into her clients’ family heritage for inspiration for renovations,” reads the exhibition’s official synopsis.
A Mexican and Native American designer, Veronica admitted that culture and tradition have always played a vital role in her life. Over the years, she has been inspired to tell the family story through design in more than 600 home renovations. “I believe that discovering our roots can profoundly affect every aspect of our lives,” she said.
But the designer was never alone in her journey of carving her clients’ family heirlooms into their homes. Her Extreme Makeover crew David Bohler, Tommy Rouse and Joshua Smith have always been there for her and are still with her on the brand new HGTV show.
“We are such a cooperative group. I value their friendship as much as their knowledge and expertise. They simply make all the projects I work on that much better and mean everything to me. Honestly, I would be nothing without them,” said Veronica.
Also, since the show has been receiving positive reactions, Veronica stated that she was “really overwhelmed” as she spent years on the project.

“I mostly design and style everything I can get my hands on.” I design homes and creatively direct interiors and exteriors for lots and lots of designer makeover shows, styled weddings, commercial spaces, photo shoots, floral arrangements, and even a good old fashioned party from time to time,” she described herself.

Veronica Valencia married her husband Kris Hughes on November 11, 2016 at Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, California.
“11. November was the most magical day of my life,” she said. “I married my best friend, business partner and life partner. I have no words for the ceremony. The moment I reached the passage; my heart literally skipped a beat.”
The designer met Kris for the first time in 2012 in New York on a television show. “He was the show’s production manager,” she recalled. “When the show was over, I said, ‘Come to Los Angeles, and I promise you we can perform together!'”
Now, the two really work together. In fact, Veronica started The Design Hunters with her husband. She said that the best part of working together with Kris is that they have so much professional experience together. On the contrary, the hardest part was organizing their professional life and being parents. “I don’t remember the last time we were on a date,” she said.
Speaking of their children, Veronica and Kris welcomed Hunter Babe Hughes on October 27, 2018, and River in 2021.

Veronica Valencia comes from a family of six.
Her father, Armando Valencia, was a captain in the Los Angeles Fire Department. He often took Veronica to model homes on weekends because she was fascinated by their staging and architecture. “We would pretend we were interested in buying a house just so I could go in and look,” the HGTV host recalled.
Unfortunately, we don’t know much about Veronica’s mother, Anita Valencia, other than that she loved her to the moon. “You are out of your mind with selflessness. Her sister Katherin also studied at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising and now works as a photographer. While her brother, David went on to co-found Overly Social (a Los Angeles marketing agency for local businesses) and MintWorld (an NFT art and virtual goods trading company).
