Watch this 1,000-horsepower Jeep Trackhawk scorch supercars in the quarter mile

9.66 @ 145 mph Jeep Trackhawk World Record 1/4 Mile Run

With 707 horsepower thanks to a supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V8, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is quite the powerhouse right out of the box. But Texas-based Hennessey Performance Engineering is never one to settle for stock, so it turned the Trackhawk into a quarter-mile-devouring monster.

The Hennessey HPE1200 Trackhawk is the latest in a long line of great tuner cars. It just ran the quarter mile in 9.66 seconds at 145 mph and went from 0 to 60 mph in 2.3 seconds, according to Hennessey. That’s a big improvement over Jeep’s claimed 0-60 mph time of 3.5 seconds and 11.6-second quarter-mile time for the standard Trackhawk. Hennessey’s version is also faster from 0 to 60 mph than the Ferrari 812 Superfast or the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ. Hennessey also claims the HPE1200 will do more than 200 mph, compared to 180 mph for the standard Trackhawk.

“Some might say it’s pointless to build an SUV faster than almost every supercar and hypercar on the market today. I say that’s the point,” Hennessey founder and CEO John Hennessey said in a statement. “And because we can.”

For something this big to go that fast, you need a lot of power. So Hennessey modified the Jeep’s 6.2-liter V8 (shared with Dodge’s Hellcat Challenger and Charger) and added a larger supercharger. The result is 1,200 hp and 1,100 pound-feet of torque at the crankshaft, when running on 109-octane unleaded gasoline. Unavoidable powertrain losses reduce that to 1,003 hp and 892 lb-ft at the wheels, according to Hennessey.

That power doesn’t come cheap. The price of the Hennessey HPE1200 is $179,000, including the price of the donor Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. The Trackhawk’s base price is $86,200, so you’ll still spend a little over $90,000 on upgrades. Hennessey also offers upgrades for more traditional American muscle cars, but the Jeep’s four-wheel drive probably makes it easier to use the extra performance in the real world. Also, your children and dog can come along for the ride.

The HPE1200 isn’t even the craziest Hennessey vehicle. The company also makes six-wheel versions of the Ford F-150 Raptor and Chevrolet Silverado, and its Exorcist Camaro has a top speed of 217 mph. But the tuner’s creation could be the Venom F5, a true supercar with a claimed top speed of 301 mph. If the F5 achieves this, it will be the fastest production car in the world.
