Here are four things that make Elon Musk stand out as a businessman:

1. Walter Isaacson on Musk’s angry qualities:

Isaacson told CNBC’s ‘Squawk Box’ that Musk is known for making controversial statements on Xu (formerly Twitter). However, this “reckless series” of comments does not separate Musk from his genius for innovation at companies like Tesla and SpaceX.

“He has these angry qualities and these urges and these demons, but if you take them out, you don’t have the impulsive character that drives things,” Isaacson told CNBC.

Musk’s willingness to take risks and express his thoughts helped him become the richest person in the world and one of the world’s most powerful entrepreneurs. Isaacson went on to say, “If you don’t have Elon Musk’s whole outfit, you’re not going to get innovation.” (Also read: Elon Musk’s brother, Kimbal Musk, once bit the flesh off his own hand, biography reveals)

2. A troubled tycoon driven by inner demons

Isaacson says every person has some demons to face, but Musk has “two orders of magnitude more than most of us.” The author told The New York Times that Musk was able to harness his demons to power.

The tech giant’s three main motivations include: getting humans to Mars, building the era of electric vehicles, and making sure artificial intelligence is safe.

“These are three big missions that I thought he was just saying, but he’s really motivated by it. He also craves excitement and drama and risk so much that whenever things go well, he can’t be left alone or enjoy it enough,” Isaacson told The New York Times.

3. Does money motivate Musk?

The author told CNBC that Musk did not buy Twitter for money. Isaacson says, “If he wanted to make money, he wouldn’t have bought Twitter, he wouldn’t have sent rockets to Mars, he probably wouldn’t have made electric vehicles. There are a lot of things that motivate him, but money is not number one.”

4. Musk’s view on empathy:

According to Isaacson, Musk’s personality does not include respect, empathy, restraint, the ability to cooperate, the tendency to consider how his words affect others around him, love for his children and vacations, reports VOX.

“He didn’t have the emotional receptors that produce everyday kindness and warmth and the desire to be liked. He wasn’t ingrained to have empathy,” Isaacson shares. (Also Read: Elon Musk’s X Is ‘Non-Compliant Platform’, Doesn’t Follow Orders: Govt)
