When is my phone getting Android 13? Google, Samsung, OnePlus, and more

Android 13 is available for Android phones from the end of 2022, and it’s a fairly small update from Google. Well, we say less, but that’s only in comparison to the positively massive number of changes that were in Android 12 — and in light of Google’s policy of making improvements to Android apps throughout the year as they’re ready. Android 13 is more about tweaking the engine that powers your phone than anything else. But it’s still worth getting excited about.

Tablet and foldable device owners will see the most benefits, and there will also be some updates to Material You to improve Android’s adaptability. There really isn’t much more to say about Android 13. It’s an update that’s very stealthy, and that trend seems to be continuing with the upcoming Android 14.

In terms of timelines, Google dropped Android 13 in August, with the Pixels getting it first, and Samsung and Oppo releasing their updates soon after. Here’s when you can expect it to appear on your phone.

Which phones will get Android 13?

Google’s Pixel phones were among the first to receive the update, followed shortly by Samsung, with other brands jumping in behind. Most phones from Samsung Galaxy, Asus, HMD (Nokia phones), iQOO, Motorola, OnePlus, Oppo, Realme, Sharp, Sony, Tecno, Vivo, Xiaomi and more are either running Android 13 in 2023 — or expected to get it during the year. Some flagship devices such as Nokia and Motorola, for example, despite an interface close to “stock” Android, have not yet received updates until February 2023.

Asus was is testing the Android 13 update for the Asus Zenfone 8 shortly after rolling out Android 12 to its older flagships. Shortly after the availability of the Pixel for Android 13, the company announced the introduction of the Zenfone and ROG lines.

Asus started rolling out Android 13 in December 2022, when the Zenfone 9 received it. The Zenfone 8 and ROG Phone 6 series will follow by the end of March 2023, while the ROG Phone 5 will arrive before June. By mid-February 2023, the Asus Zenfone 9 and 8 series have also received Android 13 updates.

Google has confirmed that all Pixel devices since the Pixel 4 will get Android 13. That means the Pixel 4, 4XL, 4a, 4a 5G, 5, 5a, 6, 6a and 6 Pro. The 3a and 3a XL have seen their latest updates, while the The Pixel 7 and 7 Pro will launch with Android 13 on board. On August 15, Google announced the rollout of Android 13 to all supported Pixels, signaling the start of the update.

Samsung

Samsung’s Android 13 update is taking shape One UI 5. The company’s latest version of Android includes tidbits like an expanded lock screen customizer and “mods,” a take on Apple’s iOS 16 lock screen and focus modes.

Samsung has also included all the features of Android 13, including an improved Material You theme and a new privacy and security dashboard. The Bixby Tell feature for answering phone calls via text is coming in 2023, according to Samsung.

While we expected every Samsung A-series and S-series phone released in the last four years to get One UI 5 and Android 13 pretty quickly, Samsung moved faster than expected. However, the company estimates that this series of updates will last until February 2023.

While Samsung’s launch was particularly fast, the company says this year will be even faster as it works to close the gap.

While the company hasn’t made any specific announcements about which devices will get it first, we can expect its latest flagship to be high on the totem pole. Xiaomi has already been spotted testing Android 13 for the Xiaomi 12, 12 Pro and Mi Pad 5 — the latter of which would benefit from Android 13’s big screen update.
