They got separated, but Chris chased Dahmer out of the weight room with a metal bar. He faced him over 17 kills, and Chris killed Dahmer with two blows with a barbell that crushed his head. The same thing happened to Anderson in the locker room, who was in prison for killing his wife.
Scarver believes it was no accident that he ended up with Dahmer alone, as the prison officials knew he hated the madman and wanted him dead. He was sentenced to two life terms in addition to the life term he was already serving.

Christopher Jr also described how difficult it was for his mother to raise him, his other siblings and take care of their relatives. He had a strained relationship with her mother, he said, because it was difficult for her to raise a black child alone.
Christopher Jr felt the need to get closer to a man he had never met while feeling overwhelmed by school. He wondered if his father had a deeper character than being responsible for the murder of two other inmates at the Columbia Correctional Institution in Portage. By the time his father responded to his letter, Chris knew he was dealing with a father who was genuinely interested in his academic and athletic success.
In a letter, the elder Christopher told his son: “Tough times don’t last. Tough people do that. And you’re the toughest guy I know.”
