Ciara Riley Wilson’s mother’s name is Nanette Wilson. She is the daughter of the late Dr. Hernán Leones Guiang and Josefina Espino. Ciara’s maternal grandparents were married for 52 years until her grandfather’s death.
Hernan was born in Bugallon, Pangasinan, Philippines, the son of Dr. Rodolfo and Dr. Maria (Leones) Guiang on September 14, 1939. He attended Far Eastern University in the Philippines where he earned his undergraduate degree and MD.
Hernán began his medical internship at St. Michael when the young couple moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. At Harper Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, Hernán later completed his residency in internal medicine. He received fellowships in endocrinology at the Henry Ford and William Beaumont Hospitals. In 1970, Dr. Hernan Guiang was one of the first board-certified endocrinologists in the country (the first exam in the US for this specialty).
In 1971, Hernán established his endocrinology and internal medicine practice at Muskegon, Michigan Mercy Hospital, and Hackley Hospital. He later became a diabetes specialist and spent more than 40 years working there. Hernán then worked for Mercy General Health Organization until 2013 as Medical Director of the Endocrinology and Diabetics Clinic.
