Belinda Carlisle was born on August 17, 1958 in Hollywood, Los Angeles to parents Harold Carlisle and Joanna; her mother was a housewife and her father worked at a gas station. She was the first born in a family of seven children, and her father left them when she was five years old. Belinda Carlisle began her musical career as a drummer in the band Germs in 1977. She left the band to form Go-Go with friends and fellow musicians Elissa Bello, Margot Olavarria and Elissa Bello. Eventually they left the group and were replaced by new members.
