Who is Manoj Soni, the new president of UPSC?
The Union Public Service Commission is the leading central recruitment agency in India responsible for recruiting all Group ‘A’ officers under the Government of India. UPSC conducts various exams every year such as civil service exam and NDA exam. They are considered one of the toughest tests in the world and must be passed in order to serve as the highest-ranking government officials.
UPSC consists of the President and a number of members appointed by the President of India. Recently, Manoj Soni was sworn in as the President of UPSC. He has served as president since April 2022. You can find out everything about Mana Soni here.

President of UPSC
The Chairman of the Union Public Affairs Committee is appointed by the President of India. UPSC can have from 9 to 11 members including the Chairman. Each member’s duties are limited to six years or until age 65. The Constitution of India stipulates provisions concerning UPSC in Articles 315 to 323 of Part XIV. UPSC is one of the few organizations in India operating with full autonomy and freedom.

Who is Dr. Manoj Soni? Age, life, career and more
- Dr. Manoj Soni was born on February 17, 1965 in Mumbai.
- Dr. Soni is an educator who is currently the president of UPSC. He joined the Commission on 28 June 2017 and served as Chairman from 5 April 2022, taking over from his predecessor Pradeep Kumar Joshi.
- Mr. Soni was sworn in as UPSC President on Tuesday, 16 May 2016. IAS Officer from Gujarat, BB Swain, Secretary, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and Tax Officer Suman Sharma Indian Revenue Service (IRS) income also recently joined as a member of UPSC.
- Prior to his appointment, he taught International Relations at Sardar Patel University (SPU), Vallabh Vidyanagar.
- Dr. Soni is a political scientist specializing in international relations.
- He served as vice chancellor of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University (BAOU) and Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (MSU Baroda).
- He is also a member of the board of trustees of several institutions of higher education and public administration.
- As of 2020, he is also serving as a monk/Nishkam Karmayogi (selfless worker) at the Anoopam Mission of the Swaminarayan Movement in Gujarat.
- In 2015, Dr. Soni was awarded the Institute of Chartered Management Accountants Global Award, London, UK, the World Education Congress Global Award for Leadership in Distance Education.
