Meet Mark Mester, the fired KTLA anchor
Not long before KTLA star Lynette Romero quit her job at the station, now the news network has fired fellow anchor Mark Mester. Mark’s firing comes days after he was suspended following an off-script segment in which he criticized the station’s handling of the abrupt departure of his co-anchor Lynette Romero, according to several station employees.
KTLA General Manager Janene Drafs announced the firing in a short speech during a newsroom meeting around 1:15 p.m., saying: “[Mester] He is no longer on KTLA5.” They also removed his profile from their database. Mester, co-host of Romero’s Saturday morning weekend show, deviated from the plan with an emotional comment. Apologizing to the crowd, he expressed the station’s regret for the way Romero’s departure was handled, calling it “rude, obnoxious and inappropriate.”
Mark later apologized to Lynette, whom he called his “best friend”.
He and three of his colleagues gave a speech lasting more than four minutes, with Mark’s voice shaking at times, he said: “You didn’t deserve this, it was a mistake, and we hope you can find it in your heart to forgive. us. After his suspension, viewers of his show flooded Twitter.

The people in the newsroom claimed that after his show they saw Mark decline invitations from management to enter his office for a meeting. Mark reportedly told one of the news directors to “shut up” at one point, and when ordered to leave the building, Mester refused.
