Randall Herman Meisner (1911-2010) was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, to Herman Meisner (1911-1995) and Emilie Meisner (1911-2010). Randall’s parents were farmers, and he had one older sister, Carol Meisner, who died in 2005. His father was a violin teacher, and his mother was always singing around the house, he said.
He became interested in the guitar when he was ten years old after watching Elvis Presley perform. He started taking guitar lessons and started playing in local bands. His teacher at Scottsbluff High School suggested he practice playing the bass, and after he tried it, he found it came naturally to him.
