Why Rahama Sadau Could Face Death Sentence Over Blasphemy

Actress Rahama Sadau has been accused of blasphemy for risque photos on social media and could face the death penalty.

If you recall, an Abuja resident, Malam Lawal Muhammad Gusau, filed a complaint with the Inspector General of Police against the legendary actress, who ordered her arrest.

Kannywood actress Rahama Sadau will appear in a Sharia court in Kaduna on blasphemy charges brought against her after she shared risque photos on social media.

As per the conditions set by Mr. Lawal Muhammad Gusau which must be fulfilled before she will defend herself. Rahama Sadau’s lawyer must be a Muslim. The work of the police must cease in their duty to bring Mercy to the Islamic Sharia court. Mr. Lawal named the teachers he wanted to sit down and try Rahama for blasphemy. No lawyer from Kaduna or even from the North as a whole should interfere with Rahama Sadau’s statement.

The case against the actress “is a matter related to the hadiths of the Prophet and the Holy Quran and not a matter related to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Recall that two months ago in Kano, the Sharia court sentenced a 22-year-old gospel singer to death by hanging for allegedly blaspheming in a song the singer wrote.

Also last month, 13-year-old Omar Farouq was sentenced in Kano state to 10 years in prison with hard labor for alleged blasphemy.

According to the Shafi’i madhhab, one of the four schools of Islamic law in Sunni Islam, death is mandatory in cases of blasphemy, for both Muslim men and women, and repentance is not accepted.

Even in the Christian scriptures in Leviticus 24:16, the penalty for blasphemy is death.

“Anyone who blasphemes the name of the Lord will be punished by death. The whole choir must stone them. Whether foreigners or natives, when they blaspheme the Name, let them be put to death.”
