Wife Leaving After Husband Demanded She Care for Stepdaughter’s Baby Backed

A woman has received support online for sharing in a social media post that she left her husband after he demanded she take care of his stepdaughter’s child.

“[My husband] has a daughter Lea. His wife died when she was 10 and I met him when she was 15,” the woman said on Reddit. She went on to say that Leah, now 25, got pregnant last year, but that the baby’s father broke up with her. after he found out she was going to keep the child.

“Leah came back to us because she couldn’t afford her lifestyle without him,” she wrote. “She worked as a teacher and he was the breadwinner. I was worried about how she would raise the child on her salary as a teacher. I suggested that we make him pay child support.

“When she had the baby, Leah seems to have realized that having a baby isn’t all the sunshine and rainbows she thought it was, and now her leave is coming to an end. She didn’t want to leave the baby in daycare or with a nanny,” she added.

The woman then revealed that Leah asked her if she could stop working for a while and stay home to look after the baby instead, and when she refused, her husband stepped in and insisted she do as Leah asked.

“They are both pressuring me to stay home with the baby so that she can go to work. I firmly stand by my decision. Leah said I don’t love her, and my husband is angry with me,” the woman concluded.

dr. Carole Lieberman, a forensic psychiatrist from the US, said Newsweek that the Redditor should not be pressured to stay home and take care of Leah’s child and that she should stand by her decision.

“Leah had a very unrealistic view of what life with a baby would be like,” Dr. Lieberman said. “It shouldn’t be her stepmother’s fault that she stays home and takes care of her baby. If she doesn’t want to stay home, then she can work and pay for a babysitter or daycare like countless other mothers do. A woman shouldn’t have to pay for her mistakes, nor surrender to her sense of entitlement.”

What do the comments say?

Since it was shared on the social media platform on September 24, the Reddit post has been endorsed by 95 percent of users and has been commented on more than 3,000 times. Most Redditors who chimed in on the post support the woman.

“I can 100% guarantee her late mother would agree with this,” one user wrote.

Another user added: “She should tell her husband to cut it off and stop trying to pressure her to raise his daughter’s child. If he wants a family member to babysit her child while she works, then he can.”
