Will my phone automatically change for daylight saving time?

Like it or not, it’s that time of year again: Daylight Savings Time. On Sunday, March 12, at 2:00 am (local time), most people in the United States will “leap forward” and put their watches forward one hour. In addition to losing an hour of sleep, an important question arises: will your phone automatically switch to daylight saving time?

That’s a question that applies regardless of what phone you have. Whether you are using an iPhone 14 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra or any other smartphone, it is important to know whether or not you need to change it for the new time.

In the past, when we didn’t have smart devices to do the work for us, we had to remember to change the clocks ourselves, or find out the hard way. Of course, with non-Internet wall clocks, oven clocks, and some car clocks, you’ll still have to do that work.

Most smartphone watches will adjust automatically if your software is up to date. If you’ve messed with settings before and changed the default date or time settings, you may need to update your watch yourself to make sure it’s ready for daylight saving time.
