Delfonics founder and lead vocalist William Hart has died at the age of 77.
According to TMZ, Hart passed away on Thursday, July 14, due to complications from surgery.
After the operation, he had respiratory problems, due to which he eventually died.
The original lineup of The Delfonics included Philadelphia natives Randy Cain, William Hart, and his brother Wilbert. The group had a string of singles in the late 1960s and early 1970s, including “Ready or Not Here I Come (Can’t Hide from Love)”, “I’m Sorry”, “La-La (Means I Love You)”. ”, and “Didn’t I surprise you (this time)?”.
Due to the group’s waning popularity in the late 1970s, William and Wilbert eventually fell out and broke up to start their own version of the Delfonics.
In 1971, The Delfonics won a Grammy for Best R&B Performance for their song “Didn’t I (Blow Your Mind This Time)”. They were inducted into the National Rhythm and Blues Hall of Fame in 2014.
